"Dignity is the core of justice."

My final feature will be on agriculture laborers and the injustices they face in the state of California. I plan to interview: an agriculture laborer, an employer of agriculture laborers, and an organization that works with laborers. If anyone can contribute to my project I would appreciate it.
My email is [email protected]

The next step for my feature on the deportation of illegal Hispanic immigrants is to line up some interviews. I plan on speaking with my friend, getting contact information from Jessica and Rafael who said they know of some potential sources, and also on contacting an immigration lawyer.

I believe that the quote "dignity is the core of justice," speaks to treating others how you would like to be treated. If people are not treated with dignity, they will not feel the need to try and cooperate with society. They will instead feel alientated and rebel from it. If not respect, everybody desevres a little bit of dignity.

My feature will be on the representation of women in Italian media and its social repercussions. I have contacted my professor from abroad and she is more than willing to do an email or skype interview. I am waiting to hear from an Italian friend of mine who I would love to interview for a non-American perspective. I am also considering contacting Mauro Bedoni with a few questions since he worked in the industry. Beyond Italian resources, I want to interview some of my peers who are uneducated on the subject and see what their reaction to the issue is.

In response to the idea that "Dignity is the core of injustice," I believe this pertains directly to my issue. Not only would women not subject themselves to such sexual objectification if they had more self dignity, they would not need to if men treated them with more dignity. This mentality is being learned by young women who idolize these mute sex icons, only further perpetuating the cycle.

Reaching out to my peers- I was wondering if any of you are exceptionally tech savvy and have recommendations for programs or websites I can use to create my multi-media feature. If you do please email me at [email protected], thank you!

I have narrowed down my feature to one main question: what do we do with the horses? Obama recently legalized horse slaughter for human consumption in America. Horses from all walks of life, from neglected, mal-formed pasture ponies to successful race horses are sent to slaughter, simply because no one can afford to keep them. While the idea of horse slaughter in the U.S. is sickening, it saves horses from being sent all around the world in horrible conditions to be slaughtered in places like Mexico and Japan. In my opinion horses should not be slaughtered at all, but in that case, what do we do with horses that no one wants? I have looked up several rescue centers in the area and I now need to set up some interviews to ask these people about what they think the best plan of action should be. What other types of sources should I look for?

In response to the dignity question: I believe dignity involves respect, it is something one must give others and something one must have for oneself. This becomes more muddled in regards to horses because there is a group of people that do not believe animals deserve dignity, even (or especially) in death. If a change is to be made animals must be given their dignity in life and death.

My final feature will regard the issue of how women dress and the sexual harassment they receive. It is argued that when women choose to dress in scantily clad outfits they are asking for sexual harassment or rape. I plan on interviewing men and women of UCSB and their opinions on this matter. I believe that this issue is especially relevant to the Isla Vista area and on Del Playa when people go out at night. I also plan on interviewing members of the Women's Rape Prevention Education Center and finding scholarly articles about this topic.

In regards to Rios' quote, "Dignity is the core of justice", it applies directly to my feature subject. The idea that what a women chooses to wear can strip her dignity and justice away from being treated like a human being (without sexual harassment) is ludicrous. Dignity comes within a person and their character. The amount of dignity and thus justice one person deserves cannot be judged by what a person wears.

You should research Slut Walks. They were a form of protest in response to Toronto Police Officer, Constable Michael Sanguinetti's comment on how women should stop dressing like sluts to avoid rape. The Slut Walks have become an international phenomenon.

My feature will examine the occupational patterns of (illegal) immigrants in the United States. This will be done by looking at the lowest strata, the bottle collectors in Isla Vista.

It surprised me to see that some of my interviewees do not see anything wrong with collecting bottles. Out of a more objective perspective, how dignified would we feel if we had to live off other people's trash in the "land of opportunity"? There is certainly a huge gap between official propaganda and the real life and want to examine it.

...and I briefly interviewed two bottle collectors in IV last weekend, which let me to modify the idea of my feature a little bit. I realized that both of them are undocumented immigrants from Mexico who came straight to Isla Vista in order to collect bottles. They say, they do not receive papers and do not want to change their occupation because they would not be able to eat, if they stopped collecting for one day... dignity....

My respond to Rio's quote would be that Justice needs humanity, dignity is an act of worthiness and self-worth, for me justice works best when people are treated with the utmost respect they deserved not lowly and cruelly, this only perpetrates hatred and thus more crime.

I would respond to this by saying that both sides of the abortion debate are seeking to restore dignity, and that this leads them to take sometimes extreme measures to ensure that justice is served.

Dignity is possessed by those who have respect and who others consider being worthy of honor. There is mostly no justice for those who don't have dignity or who are not considered dignified in social contexts; the homeless are in this category.

I am beginning to turn to different students to interview on the subject. I think I will conduct interviews with 2 students from the United States and 2 from abroad. The questions I will ask will be on how much they know about Guantanamo and how they view it, whether it instantly comes to mind as a human rights abuse or not.
I will look into academic writings on Guantanamo Bay and justice, maybe from Professor Lisa Hajaar. I'll move forward with interviews this week.

The inmates in prison should be treated well. They also have the human rights. I don’t think that the inmates in all the prisons are treated well and the authorities have to take strict actions to prevent such happenings in prison.
